I agree that hi...I have a different view of Myers. I agree that his concentration or bully attitude leads to lapses of judgement both on and off the field. However, you'd be hard pressed to find a better pitcher available than him, so therefore keep him! Myers, Hamels, and Lieber are solid. Not spectacular, but solid. If we can keep Moyer and/or Wolf then the rotation is now deep too. Yes, there is no true "ace", but at least we'd have a good rotation. If those 5 would have been starting together at the beginning of '06, we'd still be playing baseball right now.GM-Carsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06805746782773160139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610014.post-1159988968615708052006-10-04T15:09:00.000-04:002006-10-04T15:09:00.000-04:00RSB: In one respect, I regret what I wrote about ...RSB: In one respect, I regret what I wrote about Myers because my true feelings are akin to yours about him. Take the Washington game he lost. Most people said he pitched seven innings and "only" allowed three runs, a "quality" start in today's parlance. I look at that critical game and say, "A number one guy shuts the other guys down. Period." He will never be that number one guy. It's almost like waiting for Padilla, another guy with "unbelievable stuff" to get his act together, just a different act!Tom Goodmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00816668232837298444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610014.post-1159988679991017452006-10-04T15:04:00.000-04:002006-10-04T15:04:00.000-04:00I think Bombard and Dancy were fired because they ...I think Bombard and Dancy were fired because they never should have been hired in the first place. The coaching decisions were obviously all Gillick's, and Manuel shouldn't have been the one making the statement to the press about it. There's something kind of oily about how that went down, and I can't imagine Manuel has a very good taste in his mouth about it.

If I were the Phillies, I would listen to offers involving Myers if they were guaranteed another starting pitcher in return. I would gladly take a more dependable no. 2 or no. 3 pitcher who may be slightly older for Myers. How much more proof do you need than Jamie Moyer that it isn't 'stuff' or youth that is more likely to win games, but savvy and experience?

I still don't believe that Myers will ever put together the kind of season which would justify any 'untouchable' label the Phillies have ever placed on him. His command and concentration is too inconsistent game to game, inning to inning. You can either keep waiting helplessly year after year for him to show you something more, or you can go in a different direction.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
