It's too bad Steinbrenner's meglomania is going to cost a good man his job, but Torre has probably had enough of NY by this point.Tom Goodmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00816668232837298444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610014.post-1160477469378849492006-10-10T06:51:00.000-04:002006-10-10T06:51:00.000-04:00Good/great pitching always seems to prevail 9 time...Good/great pitching always seems to prevail 9 times out of 10. That's why I'd love to see Hamel and/or Myers step up to "ace" status. The Phils will go to the World Series, much like Schilling and Johnson did for the Diamondbacks, or Soriano and Santana would have done for the Twins.GM-Carsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06805746782773160139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610014.post-1160453150545105062006-10-10T00:05:00.000-04:002006-10-10T00:05:00.000-04:00Jeff Kent's comment is as cheesy as his mustache.Jeff Kent's comment is as cheesy as his mustache.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05280787651173760341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610014.post-1160445147000495142006-10-09T21:52:00.000-04:002006-10-09T21:52:00.000-04:00It's really no wonder that the present-day Yankees...It's really no wonder that the present-day Yankees fail repeatedly in the playoffs, in contrast to the Yankees from the late '90s - those were *teams* that functioned as a cohesive unit. You didn't have glorified all-stars at every position, but you had guys like Paul O'Neill, Scott Brosius, Bernie Williams, Luis Sojo, Tino Martinez - these were winning, unselfish ballplayers who knew what it took to win. An all-star team, a rotisserie team, is impressive on paper, but where is the moxie when you need it? (Ed Wade, I'm talking to you, too!) It's not in guys like Alex Rodriguez and Bobby Abreu, that's for damn sure. These Yankees couldn't find a way to win because they were built on the basis of pure numbers and not constructed to win or play as a team.

It's an interesting parallel with the reaction to Abreu in Philadelphia and Rodriguez in New York. Baseball fans around the country see the glitzy statistcs of Rodriguez and say, those New Yorkers are idiots, they're spoiled, they're too harsh! I say, they know exactly what they're talking about when they voice their displeasure for the guy. I think he has it coming.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
