Mr. Right

So, in the end one James Calvin Rollins was correct: the Phillies were the team to beat in the East. To honor his prescience (and his contributions to said outcome), J-Roll will be named the league MVP later this autumn.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...or better teammate.

The Phillies have made me so very happy.

Don't get to say that often!

I don't really quite know how it came to this. Like 1993, it feels like a complete vindication of all the lost years in between the previous playoff appearance. Everything just played out to perfection, and in the first ever Phils-Mets divisional race, the Phillies somehow emerged triumphant. How could I have believed such a thing was possible? Being a baseball fan bred in Philadelphia, I was obviously not imbued with the Power of Positive Thinking. So this all comes as a great and wonderful shock. I really gave them no shot up until the moment when that enormous Met first-inning deficit was posted on the scoreboard.

The accolades I have in mind are endless, but like you, I'll try just reserving them for Rollins now. Ah, his was a season for the ages, a historic year which will never be forgotten. Like the Phils, Rollins exceeded all expectations this season. He is a winner among winners.

We still have two more days to savor this ecstacy before the playoffs roll around! Enjoy. It must be a great time to be in the city.
