Peter Gammons, one of the genuine good guys and chroniclers of baseball, is in a Boston hospital ICU following a brain aneurysm.
Here is a transcript of his induction speech to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Gammons' Speech. It is well worth reading.

I didn't want to make it seem that no one else cared arbout Peter Gammons. Despite the fact that he seems very strange, spits into the microphone, and can't seem to construct a sentence without the word 'BUT' somewhere in the middle, I count myself as a fan.
I don't always agree with his assessments, but he always comes across as a real fan of the game and a guy who likes ballplayers, warts and all. He can evaluate players and management without ever seeming judgmental or self-serving.
